The Need

Nuffield Health Warwickshire Hospital was planning a 10.5m pound refurbishment and build programme to improve their facilities. As a result, they required additional theatre capacity while the work was ongoing. The scope of the renovation included a complete upgrade of the existing operating theatres.

The Q-bital Plan

To help them achieve the additional capacity required, Q-bital worked with the hospital’s management and estates teams to develop a plan to provide two mobile operating theatres.

The Q-bital Solution

In the first deployment of its kind in the UK, Q-bital provided two mobile theatres together. This enabled surgical procedures to continue. Working with the Nuffield team, Q-bital also developed a special walkway to the two mobile theatres. This allowed direct patients transfers to these facilities, exactly as if they were going into one of the regular theatres.

When the two theatres arrived, they opened out to provide a large clinical area complete with anaesthesia, operating rooms and and recovery area.

The Outcome

The setup allowed the hospital staff to conduct surgical procedures on time. It also ensured that patient experience remained positive.

Edward Goldsmith, General Manager of Nuffield Health Warwickshire Hospital, told us: “Quite simply, we could not have carried out this huge investment in local healthcare facilities without calling in these two mobile theatres. It is hugely impressive and I am pleased to say that our patients had their surgical procedures on time as planned as a result.”
