Forskningen blev udf\u00f8rt af University of Otago, Adapt Research og Tairawhiti District Health Board. Gr\u00e5 st\u00e6r f\u00e5r \u00f8jets naturlige linse til at blive uklar, hvilket for\u00e5rsager t\u00e5get, sl\u00f8ret eller mindre farverigt syn.<\/p>\n

Forskning viser, at personer med gr\u00e5 st\u00e6r er dobbelt s\u00e5 tilb\u00f8jelige til at falde og derfor tilf\u00f8jer yderligere pres p\u00e5 sundhedssystemet samt potentielt begynder at lide af depression og isolation. Forskeren Mr. Boyd sagde<\/p>\n

"At det er en meget god investering af sundhedsdollaren, fordi fordelene ved fald, der kunne forhindres, og forbedringen af synet er meget gode i forhold til nogle andre sundhedsinterventioner."<\/p>\n

"Problemet med gr\u00e5 st\u00e6r vil kun stige i takt med, at befolkningen bliver \u00e6ldre. 27 millioner gr\u00e5 st\u00e6r operationer udf\u00f8res hvert \u00e5r globalt, hvilket g\u00f8r det til verdens f\u00f8rende procedure."<\/p>\n
