Een heropleving van Covid-19 zet het gezondheidszorgsysteem in de Australische staat Victoria onder druk. Als reactie hierop heeft de deelstaatregering ziekenhuizen geadviseerd om de chirurgische activiteit op 75% van het niveau van v\u00f3\u00f3r de pandemie te houden, om ervoor te zorgen dat er voldoende capaciteit is om coronaviruspati\u00ebnten te behandelen. Maar zou er ook een andere oplossing kunnen zijn?<\/p>\n

De deelstaatregering was van plan om alle ziekenhuizen in Victoria in juli groen licht te geven om terug te keren naar hun gebruikelijke capaciteit voor operatiekamers voor electieve chirurgie (100%), in lijn met andere Australische staten en territoria. Maar de afgelopen weken zijn in Victoria bijna twee dozijn mensen gediagnosticeerd met Covid-19, waaronder artsen, verpleegkundigen en paramedici.<\/p>\n

Vorige week werd een uitstel aangekondigd voor de terugkeer naar het niveau van electieve chirurgie van v\u00f3\u00f3r de coronacrisis. Ziekenhuizen werd geadviseerd om op 75% van electieve chirurgieactiviteiten te blijven. Zo kunnen ziekenhuizen levensreddende zorg bieden als het aantal coronavirusgevallen blijft stijgen.<\/p>\n

De beperkingen voor openbare ziekenhuizen blijven tot nader order van kracht en het plan van de staat om de groeiende wachtlijst voor ziekenhuizen in te halen, is opgeschort. Dit betekent dat pati\u00ebnten die wachten op een electieve operatie in openbare ziekenhuizen in Victoria te maken krijgen met nog langere wachttijden.<\/p>\n

Analyse doorDe Sydney Morning Herald<\/em>EnDe leeftijd<\/em>schat dat er tijdens de sluiting ongeveer 120.000 mensen op de wachtlijsten van openbare ziekenhuizen zijn bijgekomen, waaronder ongeveer 36.000 in Victoria (een toename van 71%) en ongeveer 32.400 in NSW (een toename van 36%).<\/p>\n

Echter, door gebruik te maken van flexibele oplossingen voor de gezondheidszorg<\/a>, zoals mobiele en modulaire operatiekamers, zouden ziekenhuizen de electieve chirurgieactiviteit op 100% kunnen houden en kunnen voorkomen dat wachtlijsten langer worden, terwijl ze tegelijkertijd de cruciale Covid-19-capaciteit in het ziekenhuisgebouw behouden.<\/p>\n

Een tijdelijke operatiekamer kan zich op de parkeerplaats of op een andere geschikte locatie naast het ziekenhuis bevinden en kan zeer snel operationeel zijn als er sprake is van een dringende noodzaak, zoals een lokale uitbraak van Covid-19, waardoor de lokale gezondheidszorg onder druk komt te staan.<\/p>\n
