In het licht van een dergelijke dringende behoefte zijn snel inzetbare oplossingen nodig.<\/p>\n<p>Flexibele zorgruimtes, zoals\u00a0<a href=\"\/nl_nl\/facilities\/ward-solutions\/\">afdelingen<\/a>\u00a0en Minor Injury Units (MIU&#039;s) kunnen snel buiten de hoofdafdeling spoedeisende hulp worden gelokaliseerd en in bedrijf worden gesteld om extra capaciteit te cre\u00ebren. Deze kunnen op maat worden ontworpen voor de behoeften van het ziekenhuis, zodat aan unieke, dringende behoeften wordt voldaan. In het Southmead Hospital werd een kliniek ingericht om de verwachte winterdrukte en de steeds toenemende druk op de ziekenhuiscapaciteit, verergerd door de aanhoudende COVID-19-pandemie, het hoofd te bieden. North Bristol NHS Trust zocht een snelle en effici\u00ebnte oplossing om de hoofdafdeling spoedeisende hulp uit te breiden. Deze kliniek omvatte een wachtruimte voor pati\u00ebnten, spreekkamers, een gipsruimte, schone en vuile ruimtes, een toilet en een opslagruimte voor schoonmaakmiddelen. Het klinische ontwerp van de faciliteit verbeterde de pati\u00ebntenstroom en droeg bij aan een aanzienlijke verkorting van de wachttijden op de spoedeisende hulp in het ziekenhuis. Faciliteiten zoals die in Southmead kunnen binnen enkele weken na de eerste aanvraag pati\u00ebnten ontvangen.<\/p>\n<p>Net als bij het Southmead Hospital verlichten flexibele gezondheidszorgruimtes niet alleen de spanning op de hoofdafdeling spoedeisende hulp, maar hebben ze ook een positief domino-effect op bredere delen van het ziekenhuis. De&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bma.org.uk\/news-and-opinion\/nip-a-problem-in-the-bud\">BMA<\/a>&nbsp;heeft dit probleem en de impact ervan op het hele ziekenhuis, niet alleen op de spoedeisende hulp, toegelicht aan de hand van een pati\u00ebntentraject: Een pati\u00ebnt met spoed arriveert direct vanuit de ambulance in een operatiekamer. Omdat de ambulance de pati\u00ebnt niet naar de spoedeisende hulp kan overbrengen, mist de pati\u00ebnt waarschijnlijk belangrijke items van de verplichte checklist voor de operatie (bijvoorbeeld compressiekousen), wat vertraging veroorzaakt op de CEPOD-lijst voor spoedoperaties, terwijl extra personeel en middelen nodig zijn om ervoor te zorgen dat de pati\u00ebnt klaar is voor de operatie. Als er extra bedden beschikbaar waren geweest op de spoedeisende hulp waar de ambulance de pati\u00ebnt naartoe kon overbrengen, had de pati\u00ebnt, onvoldoende uitgerust en onvoorbereid op de operatie, geen cruciale operatiebedden hoeven te bezetten en toekomstige electieve operaties kunnen vertragen.<\/p>\n<p>Het tekort aan bedden is misschien wel het meest acuut voelbaar en wordt het vaakst aan de kaak gesteld op de spoedeisende hulp, maar het is een probleem dat zich in de hele NHS-organisatie voordoet. Het tekort op elke afdeling heeft een domino-effect op andere afdelingen. Een gebrek aan sociale zorg verergert de situatie. Als er geen zorgpakket beschikbaar is, kan worden besloten dat het veiliger is om iemand die medisch gezien gezond genoeg is om het ziekenhuis te verlaten, daar te laten verblijven. Vanguard installeerde in 2019 een gemengde oplossing voor het Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, toen het management van het ziekenhuis constateerde dat pati\u00ebnten op de spoedeisende hulp wachtten met aandoeningen die elders in de gezondheidszorg behandeld konden worden. Vlakbij de spoedeisende hulp leverde Vanguard een afdeling voor kleine verwondingen (Minor Injury Unit, MIU) met een mobiele operatiekamer met laminaire luchtstroom in combinatie met modulaire gebouwen die een receptie en wachtruimte, behandelkamers, schone en vuile ruimtes en een kleedkamer huisvestten. Een belangrijke eis was dat de afdeling toegankelijk moest zijn vanuit de bestaande spoedeisende hulp, iets wat werd gerealiseerd door de aanleg van een speciaal gebouwde loopbrug die de twee afdelingen met elkaar verbindt.<\/p>\n<p>Eenmaal ge\u00efnstalleerd had de faciliteit onmiddellijk een positieve impact. Binnen het eerste uur werden meer dan twintig pati\u00ebnten van de spoedeisende hulp omgeleid. Dagelijks werden tussen de 80 en 100 pati\u00ebnten in het MIU behandeld voor een reeks kleine verwondingen, zoals fracturen, verwondingen aan zacht weefsel en beten.
