Het transformatieve werk van het Vanguard-team bij de ontwikkeling en oprichting van een zelfstandig chirurgisch centrum voor St George&#039;s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust wordt in dit rapport als een voorbeeld van beste praktijken aangehaald.<\/p>\n<p>Als direct gevolg van de impact van de COVID-19-pandemie gaf St George&#039;s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust opdracht voor de bouw van een chirurgisch centrum en schakelde Vanguard in om de zelfstandige faciliteit te ontwerpen en te bouwen op de parkeerplaats van Queen Mary&#039;s Hospital in Roehampton. Dit project werd ontworpen met de ambitie om de capaciteit uit te breiden en chirurgen in staat te stellen routinematige ingrepen veilig te blijven uitvoeren en de achterstand in electieve zorg effici\u00ebnt weg te werken.<\/p>\n<p>Gezien de dringende behoefte aan de faciliteit, ontwikkelde Vanguard binnen slechts 10 dagen een voorstel en een ontwerp op maat voor de Trust. Samen met professionals zorgde Vanguard ervoor dat de faciliteit aan hun behoeften en verwachtingen zou voldoen, zowel als medisch personeel als als mens. Door gebruik te maken van moderne bouwmethoden (MMC) kon Vanguard de faciliteit in minder dan vier maanden realiseren, waardoor er vanaf juni 2021 operaties in het centrum konden worden uitgevoerd.<\/p>\n<p>Het modulaire gebouw, dat ongeveer 120 ingrepen per week mogelijk maakt, beschikt over vier speciaal ingerichte, hoogwaardige operatiekamers, een herstelruimte en spreekkamers, evenals extra ruimte voor personeelsvoorzieningen en technische ruimtes. Zodra het centrum zeven dagen per week operationeel is, zal het naar verwachting 10.000 chirurgische ingrepen per jaar kunnen uitvoeren voor pati\u00ebnten van ziekenhuizen in Zuidwest-Londen.<\/p>\n<p>De hub in Roehampton richt zich op dagbehandelingen met een hoog volume en een lage complexiteit en biedt de capaciteit voor pati\u00ebnten om ondersteund te worden voordat hun toestand verslechtert en zij intensievere, veeleisendere operaties nodig hebben die anders de last voor de NHS zouden verergeren. Dit omvat doorgaans het ondersteunen van pati\u00ebnten die plastische chirurgie, heup- of knievervangingen, galblaasverwijderingen en diagnostische urologische procedures nodig hebben.<\/p>\n<p>Cruciaal voor het succes van de ondersteuning van de NHS was het feit dat het zelfstandige karakter van het centrum ervoor zorgde dat het hoofdgebouw van het ziekenhuis tijdens de bouwperiode in gebruik kon blijven. Dit verminderde het risico op COVID-19-besmetting aanzienlijk, doordat de faciliteit gescheiden was van de acute zorg. De oprichting van het chirurgische centrum droeg er ook toe bij dat de concurrentie om operatiekamers afnam, waardoor complexere, risicovolle ingrepen op andere locaties in de regio konden worden uitgevoerd.<\/p>\n<p>Naast het bieden van capaciteit voor de broodnodige chirurgische ingrepen, dient de hub ook als een ruimte om degenen op te leiden die tijdens de pandemie hun opleiding hebben verloren, en zo het bredere NHS-personeelsbestand te ondersteunen in de nasleep van de pandemie.<\/p>\n<p>Het modulaire karakter van chirurgische faciliteiten \u2013 zoals die in Roehampton \u2013 geeft prioriteit aan flexibiliteit, wat betekent dat de hub kan reageren op veranderende eisen en lokale behoeften. Hierdoor kunnen chirurgische centra worden verplaatst en geconcentreerd in bepaalde delen van het land waar de vraag het grootst is, waardoor de missie van de regering om regionale ongelijkheden in gezondheidsresultaten te verminderen en de gezondheidszorg op een hoger niveau te brengen verder wordt ondersteund.<\/p>\n<p>Chirurgische hubs demonstreren de effectiviteit van innovatieve MMC bij het snel produceren van resultaten van hoge kwaliteit en bieden een schaalbare en effici\u00ebnte oplossing voor het terugdringen van de achterstand in de electieve zorg.
