Carbon reduction plan

Commitment to achieving net zero

Q-bital Healthcare Solutions is committed to achieving full net zero emissions by 2035. We are currently net carbon zero for scope 1 & 2 emissions from 2023 and will be net zero for scope 3 by 2035.

Baseline Emissions Footprint

Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past, prior to the introduction of any strategies to reduce emissions. Baseline emissions are the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured.

Baseline Year

2020 to 2021.

Assessment completed using GHG Protocol Corporate Standard and included full scope 1 & 2 emissions and targeted categories of scope 3 GHG emissions.

Baseline year emissions:

Reporting year: The current emissions reporting year is 2020/21 as it is our first time of reporting
Emissions Total (tCO2e)
Scope 1 17
Scope 2 97
Scope 3 (Included Sources) Upstream & downstream transport & distribution, leased assets, business travel, Waste generated in operations, fuel & energy related activities 659
Total emissions 773

Current Emissions Reporting

Reporting year: The current emissions reporting year is 2020/21 as it is our first time of reporting
Emissions Total (tCO2e)
Scope 1 17
Scope 2 97
Scope 3 (Included Sources) Upstream & downstream transport & distribution, leased assets, business travel, Waste generated in operations, fuel & energy related activities 659

Emissions reduction targets

To support our progress towards achieving net zero, we have adopted carbon reduction targets. These measures are estimated to reduce our carbon footprint over a five-year period (against baseline year) by around 17% in absolute tonnes of GHG emissions. That is equivalent to 134 tCO2e.

In addition, we will be investing in carbon off-setting schemes that remove GHG emissions from the atmosphere. We are currently reviewing and assessing credible options that are available in the market. Our investment levels and the tonnage of carbon safely sequestered by these projects are yet to be quantified but will form part of our ongoing carbon reduction plan, starting from 2023.

Carbon Reduction Projects

Completed Carbon Reduction Initiatives

The following environmental management measures and projects have been completed or implemented since the 2021 baseline:

  • We have implemented an environmental management system (EMS) certified to ISO 14001 standards
  • Our Environmental Social Governance Strategy 2022–2035 has been approved by our Board.

Our Environment Social Governance Strategy 2022–2035.

2022:

  • Review and assess credible options that are available in the market for carbon removal and off-setting schemes. Our investment levels and the tonnage of carbon safely sequestered by these projects will be quantified and form part of our ongoing carbon reduction plan, starting from 2023.

2023:

  • Continue phasing out petrol/diesel company vehicles to achieve a 30% reduction or an estimated 5.4tCO2e pa reduction based upon 2020 baseline
  • Carry out a waste audit and begin reducing waste to landfill by 20% based on 2022 data
  • Conduct a full supply chain audit of all materials and services used in the making of our mobile and modular buildings
  • Improve the operational energy efficiency of our mobile buildings by 10% based upon 2022 baseline
  • Improve the operational energy efficiency of our modular buildings by 15% based upon 2022 baseline
  • Begin selecting suppliers based upon their ESG performance and plans.

2024:

  • Continue phasing out petrol/diesel company vehicles – 60% reduction or an estimated 11tCO2e pa based upon 2020 baseline
  • Premises powered by renewable sources achieving a net reduction of an estimated 98tCO2e p.a.
  • Reduce waste to landfill by 40% based upon 2022 baseline
  • Reduce embodied carbon in our mobile and modular buildings by 10% based upon the 2023 baseline audit
  • Improve the operational energy efficiency of our mobile buildings by 15% based upon 2022 baseline
  • Improve our operational energy efficiency of our modular buildings by 20% based upon 2022 baseline.

2025:

  • Continue phasing out petrol/diesel company vehicles continues – 100% reduction or an estimated 18tCO2e pa based upon 2021 baseline
  • Reduce waste to landfill by 60% based upon 2022 baseline
  • Reduce embodied carbon in our mobile and modular buildings by 20% based upon the 2023 baseline audit
  • All Q-bital built modular buildings to be assessed against BREEAM Excellent levels.

2030 to 2035

  • Achieve Net Zero Status by 2035.
