24 bed modular ward increases hospital capacity

< Back to news
Blackpool Victoria Hospital has increased their hospital capacity with the introduction of a bespoke 24 bed modular ward facility.

Healthcare Spaces provider, Q-bital Healthcare Solutions, has partnered with Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to design and install a modular ward solution.

The bespoke 24-bed modular facility now provides essential additional capacity to assist the Trust with its elective recovery.

Working alongside Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Q-bital designed and installed the modular ward facility bespoke to the needs of the Trust. The new ward is now being used to support the Trust’s Emergency Village programme, providing vital additional ward space and ensuring that changes are taking place with minimal disruption to patient care.

The Emergency Village program is a series of developments at Blackpool Victoria Hospital, supporting the Emergency Department.

The development currently consists of a three storey, purpose-built facility for Critical Care and Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC). Both the Critical Care Unit and SDEC were officially opened in recent weeks.

John Quarmby, Account Manager for the North at Q-bital said: “The new modular ward is essential for creating crucial additional bed space at Blackpool. We are delighted to have worked on this with Blackpool Teaching Hospitals.”

Pauline Tschobotko, Deputy Chief Operating Officer for Blackpool Teaching Hospitals, said: “Traditionally the winter is the NHS’ busiest time so the new ward will play an important part in helping to ease these pressures and is a fantastic addition to the hospital.

“It is one part of the work being done by the Trust which includes focusing on safely discharging patients home and working closely with our partners across Blackpool and the Fylde Coast to ensure care packages and support are provided as quickly as possible.”
